Vervet monkey (Chlorocebus pygerythrus), Naboisho Conservancy, Masai Mara, Kenya

We’ve just come back from a fantastic trip to Kenya to sort out next year’s Hawk’s Head Photography / Enlightened Media photo / video safari! Here’s the first of many images.

This chap was sitting contemplating life as we crossed a dry riverbed in the Mara. Our side of him was in shadow, so a normal well lit shot was never going to work. However, I’ve always liked images with a graphic quality and deliberately underexposing allowed the lovely back lighting to bring out the texture of the fur around the silhouette nicely.

The reason for the Kenya trip was a recce for our 2013 photo / video safari, which is a collaboration between us at Hawk’s Head Photography and Trai Anfield at Enlightened Media. Trai is a video journalist and presenter of BBC Radio 4′s ‘Living World’. She’s joining us to teach the video side of things as well as photography. We’ll have more information on the web sites when we’ve sorted the safari information out.
